<p>The invention relates to novel intermediate compounds useful in the preparation of N-(L-aspartyl)-N'- (2,2,5,5-tetramethylcyclopentanecarbonyl)-R-1,1-diiaminoethane which is a potent sweetener free from undesirable flavor qualities. These intermediate compounds are 2,2,5,5-tetra-methylcyclopentanone, 1,2,2,5,5-pentamethylcyclopentanol; 1-methylene-2,2,5,5-tetramethylcyclopentane; 2,2,5,5-tetra-methylcyclopentylmethanol; and 2,2,5,5-tetramethylcyclopen-tanecarboxylic acid.</p> |
