PURPOSE:To advantageously obtain the titled compound useful as a monomer for aromatic polyether ketones in high yield in simple steps, by hydrolyzing a 4,4'-bis(chlorobenzoyl)diphenyl ether as a raw material in the presence of an alkali. CONSTITUTION:A 4,4'-bis(chlorobenzoyl)diphenyl ether expressed by formula II (Ar is bifunctional aromatic residue) is used as a raw material and hydrolyzed in the presence of an alkali, e.g. sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, etc., preferably in a mixed solvent of water and solfolane in an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, helium, etc., at 60-250 deg.C, particularly 100-170 deg.C to afford a compound expressed by formula II. The amount of the added alkali is preferably 5-200wt% based on the compound expressed by formula I and the volume of the solvent is preferably 10-100mol based on 10g compound expressed by formula I. The raw material is obtained by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of diphenyl ether with the corresponding chlorobenzoyl chloride. |
