PURPOSE:To permit practicable use of a high-sensitivity electron ray disk memory by using metal halide or alkali halide as a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Recording and reproduction of information to the electron ray disk are executed by projecting the electron rays focused to the recording medium 2 formed on a substrate 1 according to the information to physically deform the recording medium 2 or chemically changing the same, thereby changing the generation efficiency of secondary electrons. The metal halide or alkali halide is used as the recording medium of the memory in this case. The metal halide is exemplified by aluminum fluoride, magnesium fluoride, etc., and the alkali halide is exemplified by lithium fluoride, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, etc. The sensitivity is thereby improved.
