PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head with a high dimensional accuracy by deciding the finishing grinding processing quantity of a gap surface from the condition of a grinding monitor, controlling a head rotating mechanism, a conveying mechanism, a grinding mechanism, etc., and grinding a and processing the gap surface of a magnetic head again. CONSTITUTION:At both sides of upper part cores 8 and 8 near a gap surface 1a, triangular grinding monitors 9 and 9 are formed in which the length of detectable exposing part from the external part accompanying the increase in the grinding processing quantity at the time of grinding and processing to the gap surface 1a. By grinding and processing the gap surface 1a of a magnetic head 1, length a0 of the grinding monitors 9 and 9 is decreased as the grinding time passes, and comes to be a1 at the time of grinding up to the position shown in C-C. At this time, when the ratio of the change of the grinding time and the length of the grinding monitors 9 and 9 is constant, the length of the grinding monitors 9 and 9 is measured, and when the data are fed back and the grinding time is controlled, the gap depth an be easily ground and processed to the prescribed dimensional accuracy. |
