PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which excels in both the travelling stability and durability, by securing the content of a specific denatured organic silicone compound into a magnetic layer to improve both the lubricity and wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:A denatured organic silicone compound denatured by the fatty acid (such as caprylic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, etc.) and shown by a formula (R: hydrocarbon group of C7-21; 1<=m<150; 0<=n; m+n<=1,000; m/n=1/1,000- 1/1) is put into a magnetic layer in a ratio of about 0.1-10wt% to the magnetic powder. In other words, a magnetic coating material obtained by kneadig the above- mentioned denatured organic silicone compound, the magnetic powder, a binder and an organic solvent is coated and dried on a substrate of polyester or the like to form a magnetic layer. This magnetic layer is used for a magnetic recording medium. |
