PURPOSE:To read a signal charge by one frame from a vertical CCD while improving a hybrid image sensor by allocating two photo diodes and one cell of vertical CCDs possible for photoelectric conversion to each of the three primary colors. CONSTITUTION:One picture element consists of two photo diodes 2 arranged vertically and one cell of vertical CCDs 3 arranged aside. A signal charge formed in the photo diodes 2 is read from horizontal CCDs 5, 6 via a vertical CCD 3. 1st and 2nd horizontal CCDs 5, 6 correspond respectively to the two photo diodes 2 in one picture element. The signal electric charge formed in the vertical CCD 3 is transferred to the storage section 8 via the two horizontal CCDs 5, 6 and a distribution circuit 7. In this case, the signal charge of picture elements belonging to the field A is stored in the column A and the signal charge of the picture elements belonging to the field B is stored in the column B.
