PURPOSE:To accurately process a strip by automatically diagnosing the quality of the side end part of the strip after trimming and the meandering corresponding function of a meandering correcting device or center position controller. CONSTITUTION:A strip original plate 1A sent of a processing stage enters a side trimmer 6 after passing through a deflector roll 2, the center position controller 3, a center position control sensor 4, and a deflector roll 5. Here, the rotation of the deflector roll 5 is detected and converted by a speed indicator 7 into a strip running sped. Further, a strip meandering quantity detector 8 is provided right in front of the side trimmer 6 to compute and output the quantity Si of strip meandering. Then its output is decided by a meandering quantity comparative deciding device 9.
