PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous fitting, by carrying an oil filter in horizontal position to the end of a conveyor, and retreating an inspection means after existence of an O-ring is inspected through the inspection means when the oil filter is fitted to a tightening tool thus inspecting the O-ring immediately before screwing of filter. CONSTITUTION:An oil filter A is carried to the end by means of a work carrying conveyor 4 then hold by means of a gripper 18 and lifted through motion of a movable frame 19. Then a tightening tool 7 is advanced to fit the filter A to a socket 7a, thereafter the socket 7a is rotated slowly and a contacting plate of an O-ring detecting means 20 is advanced by means of a drive source 20b so as to contact with an O-ring. Then the rotation of the socket 7a is stopped and air is pressure fed into the filter A so as to detect existence of the O-ring through leakage of air. Thereafter, the plate of detection means is retreated and a cylinder is functioned to retreat a gripper chip 18c upward, thereafter the movable frame 19 is lowered so as to compare a gripper chip 18a and the detection means 20 at a comparing position, and the tightening tool 7 is advanced with the socket 7a is being rotated thus screwing the filter A to an engine C.
