PURPOSE:To objectively discriminate a target without generating the irregularity in the interpretation of a signal due to years of experience, by a method wherein the knowledges obtained from operators well experienced are accumulated and the assembling of the same knowledges of the operators is performed while an apparatus is allowed to refer to said knowledges on the basis of a numerical value signal processing result to allow the apparatus to discriminate the target. CONSTITUTION:The sonic wave from the water is received inclusive of the sonic wave from a target by a receiver 100. This receiving signal receives processing for extracting the characteristic element contained in the signal in a numerical value signal processing circuit 200 to be inputted to a knowledge signal processing circuit 300 and the input signal is delivered to a logical circuit 320 through a knowledge base control circuit 310. An inference practice circuit 321 always grasps which knowledge relating to the data given to the circuit 32 is present in the circuit 320 and necessary knowledge is drawn out from the experience rule memory circuit 331 or experiment rule memory circuit 332 in the knowledge base circuit 330 through the circuit 310. The circuit 310 sends the conclusion thereof to a display device 400 and an operator can receive the conclusion issued by an apparatus.
