PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a coil break, edge wave, etc., and to improve the yield of a product by decarburizing a light-gage grain oriented silicon steel and coating an annealing and separating agent thereon, then coiling the steel at the specified tension in the inside, middle and outside winding parts and subjecting the steel sheet to finish annealing. CONSTITUTION:The grain oriented silicon steel sheet contg. 2.0-4.0wt% Si and having 0.15-0.25mm product thickness is subjected to the decarburization treatment and thereafter, the annealing and separating agent is coated thereon. This silicon steel sheet is coiled under the conditions satisfying the equations I, II, and III when the cooling tensions in the inside winding part (150-200mm thickness), the outside winding part (100-150mm thickness) and the middle winding part are designated as T1, T2 and T3 (kg/mm<2>) at the time of coiling said silicon steel sheet to >=400mm thickness. The steel sheet is subjected to the final finish annealing in succession, by which the light-gage grain oriented silicon steel sheet is obtd. The amt. of the coil break to be generated in the inside winding part of the coil and the generation rate of the edge wave are decreased by this method. The collapse and telescoping of the coil are prevented as well.
