A first cooling liquid, e.g. water, supplied to chamber 8 through inlet 14, is introduced into the hot gas stream flowing through the inner shell via a series of apertures 13, and a second cooling liquid, e.g. dilute hydrochloric acic, supplied to chamber 18 through inlet 17 is introduced into the hot gas stream through an annular slot 16. The outer shell is made up of two sections 4, 5 joined together by bolts 12.
