PURPOSE:To obtain an image pickup signal on the entire screen with uniform picture quality while the deterioration in the picture quality is suppressed by scanning a liquid crystal shutter in two-dimension and applying photoelectric conversion to an optical signal from the said shutter behind the liquid crystal shutter. CONSTITUTION:A drive circuit 3 drives a scanner 2 to switch the window 2A through the sequential scanning, and the light passing through the wondow 2A opened sequentially is made incident in a photoconductive layer 5, where it is photoelectric conversion. When the light via the window 2A of the scanner 2 is made incident in the layer 5, the resistance of the layer 5 is decreased in response to the quantity of the incident light, resulting that the voltage across the load resistor RL is changed depending on the strength of the incident light, the signal based on the voltage change across the resistor RL is inputted to an amplifier 7, where the signal is amplified and becomes an image pickup signal.
