PURPOSE:To perform rapid an reliable detection of abnormality, by a method wherein when an integration value in a given period of a deviation between the actual opening of a throttle valve and a target opening based on a running state exceeds a determining value, it is decided that abnormality occurs to the driven system of the throttle valve. CONSTITUTION:A actuating state detecting means A is provided for detecting the actuating states of a vehicle and an engine. Based on a detecting signal therefrom, the target opening of a throttle valve is set by means of an opening set means B, and a drive signal responding to the target opening is outputted from a drive signal output means C to a throttle actuator D. A deviation between the actual opening of the throttle valve detected by an opening detecting means E and a target opening set by the opening set means B is calculated by means of a deviation calculating means F. An integrating value in a given period of the deviation is calculated by means of an integrating value calculating means G, and when the integrating value exceeds a preset deciding value, it is decided by means of a deciding means H.
