PURPOSE:To display image information read from an image sensor and to miniaturize a recording and reproducing device by employing a two-dimensional image sensor and image-forming a suitable two-dimensional area of a recording medium to the image sensor with an optical system. CONSTITUTION:In the X and Y directions of an optical card 2 used for a recording and reproducing device, information bits are two-dimensionally arranged, fixed guide members 4 and 5 are arranged in parallel with the Y direction on both edge frames of the device and a moving guide member 6 is arranged between both members 4 and 5. By arranging to the member 6, an optical system holder 18 is fitted through a wire 24 to pulleys 22 and 23 and a two-dimensional image sensor 36 is arranged to a holder 18. With plural LED 34 in the internal part of the optical system holder 18, the two-dimensional information of the card 2 is irradiated, the suitable bit information of the two-dimensional area of the recording medium is image-formed to the sensor 36 by an image-forming lens 32 and the information is read. The information is transferred through a signal cable 38 to the external part and displayed at a display device.
