PURPOSE:To obtain a satisfactory head touch that is always stable by forming holding members sandwiching a main magnetic film with a material whose hardness gradually increases from the upstream side of the traveling direction of a magnetic recording medium toward the downstream side. CONSTITUTION:In the heat tip part 10 of a vertical magnetic head, supporting members 12, 13 and 14 of nonmagnetic bodies made of three different types of materials are used for the holding members sandwiching the main magnetic film 11. The members 12-14 are formed with the materials whose hardnesses can gradually increase from the upstream side of the traveling direction (a) of the magnetic recording medium 1 toward the downstream side. The tip part 10 of the head can smoothly slide the holding members 12-14 on the upstream and downstream sides of the main magnetic film 11 and the medium 1, whereby the film 11 stably adheres to the medium 1. However, when the heat just after production is never used, the tip part 10 does not get to fit the medium 1. Accordingly, the tip part 10 is traced on the medium.
