PURPOSE:To determine the proper voltage of a halogen lamp by constituting a photodetecting means by coupling an optical fiber which guides part of light passing through the image forming lens of an image forming device to a control substrate with one end of the lens. CONSTITUTION:The photodetecting means 8 is constituted by coupling the optical fiber 4 which guides part of the light passing through the image forming lens 3C of the image forming device to the control substrate with one end of the lens. Light reflected by a document at the time of prescan before copying operation is guided partially to the control substrate by the optical fiber fitted to one end of the image forming lens 3C when passing through the lens and the control substrate detects its quantity to set proper copy density automatically. This control is carried out according to the quantity of the light passing through the image forming lens 3C and the accurate quantity of light viewed from the position of the image forming lens is detected to perform proper exposure regarding image formation.
