PURPOSE:To obtain a compound as an excellent electron acceptor useful as an electronic materials inexpensively and in high yield without using expensive pyridine or by using a small amount of pyridine, by dehydrogenating BDMC with a halogen in the presence of an amide compound. CONSTITUTION:1,4-Bis-(dicyanomethylene)cyclohexane (hereinafter referred to as BDMC) is dehydrogenated with a halogen or a halogen compound in the presence of an amide compound at -10-120 deg.C, preferably 0-80 deg.C for 30min-5hr to give the aimed substance. N,N-Dimethylformamide is cited as the amide compound and the amount of the compound used is >=4mol, preferably 10-100mol based on 1mol BDMC. Acetonitrile, etc., may be used as the solvent and the amount of the solvent used is two or more times as much as that of BDMC by weight. For example, electrically conductive paint, condenser, print substrate, etc., may be cited as the electronic material and the aimed substance is used for the electronic material.
