PURPOSE:To provide a composition for friction material which can prevent abnormal noise of low frequency, vibration of a car body, etc. when used as disc brake pad, etc., prepared by adding a specified volume of flaky iron powder to a base friction material. CONSTITUTION:The composition is prepared by adding 5-30vol% flaky iron powder to a base friction material consisting of a fibrous substance such as steel fiber, a binder resin such as phenolic resin, a lubricant such as graphite or molybudenum bisulfide, barium sulfate, etc. Unlike conventional friction materials, the semimetallic disc brake pad made from the above composition does not give rise to abnormal increase in the friction coefficient just before stopping of a car and causes no stick-slip against a disc rotor, thus preventing abnormal noise of low frequency and vibration of the car body. |
