PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a hole by an arc, by densifying the arc meandering loci on the peripheral face of the peak part of a cam and additionally densifying the meandering loci of scanning start and end zones of the arc at the time of hardening the peripheral face in the rising part and the peripheral face in the peak part of the cam by the plasma arc, etc. CONSTITUTION:The peripheral face 10 in the rising part and the peripheral face 11 in the peak part of the cam 8 are so scanned by, for example, a plasma torch, as to draw the meandering loci to remelt said peripheral faces to harden the same by cooling. The above-mentioned peripheral faces are segmented to the scanning start zone (a) by the plasma arc, the zone (b) from said zone to the peripheral face 11 in the peak part, the zone (c) corresponding to the peripheral face in the peak part, the zone (d) from said zone to the above- mentioned scanning end zone, and the scanning end zone (e). The highest density of the spacings of the meandering loci 25 is maintained in the zones (a), (e), the slightly lower middle density in the zone (c) and the lowest density in the zones (b), (d). The quantity of the density of the loci 25 is set on the basis of the zone (c).
