PURPOSE:To enable a line feed error to be easily and appropriately corrected independently of a line feed quantity, by correcting the line feed error according to marks provided on a printing medium at regular intervals. CONSTITUTION:In the case of printing on an elongate printing medium by a roller or belt feed type printer, timing marks 18 are provided on the printing medium 17 at regular intervals of, for example, 1 inch. A feed-controlling part 15 stores the time when mark detection is informed from a mark-detecting part 12, and rotates a stepping motor 14 when a line feed command is supplied from a printing-controlling part 6. When the total of line feed quantities designated by the line feed commands supplied after the mark detection reaches a value approximate to 180 steps, e.g., 175 steps, line feed pitch correction based on the timing of information on the mark detection is started. Where no information is given from the mark-detecting part 13 when the total of the line feed quantities reaches 180 steps, the motor 14 is moved by one step at a time until the total reaches, for example, 180 steps, and line feed correction is performed when the information is supplied.
