Chemisorption filter compositions for separating off occupied space odours, preferably tobacco smoke

It is known to use high-efficiency dust filters, electrostatic precipitators and also chemisorption composition filters to separate off odours in occupied spaces, preferably tobacco odours. All of these known filters have hitherto not yielded the desired effect, that is to say a virtually complete removal of odour substances. It has now been found that odour substances, in particular tobacco smoke pollution, can be eliminated by a filter layer comprising alkaline compositions, preferably iron(III) hydroxide and calcium hydroxide and calcium chloride dihydrate and preferably being treated with an oxidant, such as potassium permanganate, and by an activated charcoal layer being arranged downstream of this composition in the intake direction, the layer thicknesses being adapted according to the concentration of the room air to be filtered.
