A packaging container has a body (1), formed from a packaging blank with a longitudinal seam (5), and a closure membrane which is sealed onto a rolled edge (10, 11) of said body. In order to achieve a good sealing characteristic in the region of the longitudinal seam in the connection point of the closure membrane with a rolled edge, the longitudinal seam is constructed as a butt seam with bridging, thin covering strips (8, 9) of thermoplastic. This avoids a step in the seam which otherwise leads to tube formation. The packaging container allows gas-tight and water vapour tight as well as sterile packaging of valuable, sensitive foods and semi-luxury products. <IMAGE>
