An apparatus for the post-combustion of exhaust air from roasting or smoking processes in food-conditioning premises or incineration plants, having a burner provided between exhaust air inlet and exhaust air in a housing, is to be designed so that a catalyst is not necessary and comparatively little energy is required. To this end, the outer surface of a heat-exchange register is arranged, in the flow path, downstream of the exhaust air inlet (11), and the heat-exchange register is located, on the other hand, in the flow path downstream of the burner (21). In addition, the flow path between the burner (21) and the inside of the heat-exchange register (40) is bounded by surfaces (28) provided with apertures. <IMAGE>
