The invention relates to the control of an electronic typewriter with changeable daisywheel, with drives for selecting the character, to be printed, on the daisywheel, for transporting the print carriage along a line of print, for moving the recording carrier perpendicularly with respect to the line of print and with a keyboard whose keys are occupied at least partially with a plurality of different characters. The object of the invention is to automatically select the correct assignment between characters and keys each time the daisywheel is changed. According to the invention, to this end the same number of different code conversion tables are provided in the memory of the typewriter as the number of daisywheels with different character assignments which are to be used. The daisywheel bears marks on its spokes which bear the character, the arrangement of which marks determines the selection of the respective code conversion table, the said marks being detected by a sensor. <IMAGE>
