In the medical field analogue video images, for example ultrasound images, have for years been documented in instant images. Latterly, thermal printers have also been used for this. Of decisive importance in this case is a constant documentation quality (contrast, brightness). The necessary quality control, however, is at present not achieved, since no corresponding control device is available. The measuring device presented here eliminates this deficiency. The light from a constant light source is reflected from an image point and detected by a phototransistor. In corresponding electronic circuitry, an electrical voltage which depends specifically and in an easily measurable way on the grey-scale value of the image point results. It is thus possible with the measuring unit to carry out an objective monitoring of the setting of the documentation unit of an ultrasound device (or another device) and, if necessary, to reset the old values.
