PURPOSE:To efficiently produce a composite material by a simple method by packing sinterable powder contg. a hard-to-work material into a metallic cylindrical body and molding and uniting the same to a final product shape with one processing of extruding, rolling, etc. CONSTITUTION:The sinterable powder contg. the hard-to-work material such as W, Mo and ceramics is packed into the metallic cylindrical body having excellent hot and cold plastic workability. The metallic cylindrical body is subjected to at least one processing of pressing, rolling and drawing by which the powder and cylindrical body are molded and integrated to the final product shape. The composite material having a uniform metal coating layer on the surface of the powder molding of the hard-to-work material such as wire rod or bar having an optional shape is thereby easily and efficiently produced.
