Multi-stage switched distribution network for switching through broadband signals

With the planned introduction of broadband distribution services, the problem of point-to-multipoint switching of broadband signals to a multiplicity of subscribers becomes increasingly more important. If multi-stage switched distribution networks are built up taking into consideration Clos' condition, these multi-stage switching networks are not nonblocking in the case of a point-to-multipoint switch. A nonblocking switched distribution network can be implemented by expansion in the switching stages. To avoid the high switching network complexity required as a result, branches can be switched in the switching matrixes of all stages. The connecting paths in the switched distribution network are stored in occupancy tables and these occupancy tables can be used for checking whether a further connection can be added to an already existing connection, or not.
