Apparatus for excavating earth material adjacent to water by the combination of a catwalk-like elongated platform, the top side of which has a track and which has a support on the underside at least at one end and an abutment at the other end for supporting on the subsoil, and a hydraulic excavator known per se which is supported on the track of the platform, the support being designed as a floating body in such a way that it floats by a certain amount or has a greatly reduced ground pressure when the platform is relieved of the hydraulic excavator.
