PURPOSE:To improve the responsiveness to speed changes by correcting speed change timer means in response to a change of the car speed deviation during the operation of multiple timer means prohibiting the speed change of an automatic speed change control means corresponding to the car speed deviation. CONSTITUTION:If a mode switch MS is set to the position A for the automatic speed change/constant-speed travel control mode, a microcomputer CPU drives a release valve RV and a control valve CV in response to the deviation between the car speed from a speed sensor SP1 and the constant-speed travel preset speed set by a set switch SP and a resume switch RS to perform the constant- speed travel control. In this case, the speed change operation is prohibited and delayed in the period of multiple built-in speed timers. During this prohibition, if the car speed deviation is changed to the extent that the lock-up state can not be maintained, the set period of the speed change timers is corrected. Accordingly, the number of speed changes due to the overshoot of the throttle control during the constant-speed travel is decreased, and the responsiveness to speed changes can be improved. |
