PURPOSE:To accelerate development of input data into bit image data and contrive a higher printing speed, by providing character information in information divided on a block basis with position information on the layout of characters on the surface of a printing paper, before converting the input data into the bit image data. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 2 divides input data into a plurality of pieces of block- basis information 11, which are converted into a set of character information 12 provided with position information on the layout of characters on a character basis, and information 18 for one page thus obtained is sequentially stored into a page memory 6. The information 11 stored correspondingly on one block comprises the number of characters present in the block or the first address or end code of the next bloc, while the character information 12 comprises a font address 14 and horizontal position data 15, vertical start position data 16 and vertical length data 17 on a font when font data is stored into a bit map memory 7. Bit image data thus stored in the bit map memory 7 is outputted as a video signal to a printing part through a video I/F 8. |
