PURPOSE:To enable a large quantity of hard fibers in a thin wire size to be stably produced while the wire size and the length to be adjusted, by pressing a cylindrical cutter, having a spirally arranged rectangular groove, and a work to each other to generate rotation so as to give a relative sliding motion in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical cutter 2 forms on its peripheral surface spirally a groove 3 of rectangular section and a cutting edge 4 in a crossing part between the peripheral surface 2a and a side wall of the groove 3. A work 1 and the cutter 2 are arranged to be brought in contact with each other so that axial lines 5, 6 cross each other at an angle theta. The work 1 and the cutter 2 are pressed to each other at a pressure P in their contact part, and under this condition a rotary motion in the same direction or the reverse direction is applied to the work 1 and the cutter 2. In this way, a cut and sliding motion with respect to the surface of work 1 are caused by means of the cutter 2 and cutting edge 4 of the cutter 2 respectively, thus a metallic fiber is cut out from the surface of the work 1. |
