PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition suitable for wire coating, containers for household electric appliances, etc., having excellent self-extinguishing characteristics, tensile strength, elongation, etc., by blending a thermoplastic resin or elastomer with specific amounts of an epoxy group-containing compound and fine magnesium hydroxide. CONSTITUTION:(A) 90-99.99wt% based on sum of the components A and B of a thermoplastic resin (e.g. straight-chain ethylene polymer having 0.85-0.915g/cm<3>, ethylene copolymer having 1-40wt% vinyl acetate content and 0.05-50g/10min melt flow rate, etc.) or elastomer or mixture thereof is blended with (B) 10-0.01wt% based on sum of the components A and B of an epoxy group-containing compound [e.g. copolymer which has 0.5-50wt% ethylenic unsaturated epoxy compound and consists of ethylene, an ethylenic unsaturated epoxy compound and optionally a comonomer selected from a compound shown by formula I (R1 is H or CH3), etc.,] and (C) 35-80wt% based on sum of the components A, B and C of magnesium hydroxide having 0.2-2mu average particle diameter.
