The invention relates to an electrical balance having an LCD display (4) with a light source (12) for illuminating the LCD display and with a light-sensitive component (9) and control electronics for controlling the brightness of the light source (12) and proposes to arrange the light-sensitive component (9) behind a LCD display segment (6) which is controlled to be transparent and non-transparent at predetermined times by the control electronics (13).
