The mandibular denture with a denture plastic body receiving the artificial teeth and a support layer whose shape is adapted to the individual mandible is characterised for improved durability and tolerability in that the support layer is made of a permanently soft natural rubber which is bonded via a connecting layer, preferably a metal plate, to the denture plastic body. According to the method, an impression of the mandible is used to produce a model of the support layer on whose upper side a thin metal plate is formed, and thereafter the support layer is built up on the underside of the metal plate and connected thereto. Thereupon, an impression of the denture plastic body placed on the individual mandible and comprising the support layer and the metal plate is made and bonded to the upper side of the metal plate.
