SEWAGE TREATMENT APPARATUS

A sewage treatment apparatus for treating liquid effluent is arranged to repeatedly pass the effluent over a body of filter medium. The liquid effluent in a sump 10 is pumped by a pump 34 to the top of the filter medium 42 and flows into a holding tank 12. From the holding tank some of the effluent is recycled through a passage 58. The on/off time of the pump 34 is controlled by a float operated switch in response to the liquid level in the sump 10.
