PURPOSE:To easily retrieve images having similar feature points to a feature point to be noticed by designating directly this feature point on the image. CONSTITUTION:A computer 1 which controls an image retrieving system consists of an abnormal contents memo translating part 101, a retrieving condition designating part 102 and a retrieving part 103. The abnormal part of an image displayed on a display device 2 is framed by a track ball 3 and a memo showing the abnormal contents is given through a keyboard 4. Then the part 101 extracts the words registered on a technical term dictionary 5 related to the abnormal part or the abnormal contents. These extracted words are registered on a retrieving key file 6 as the retrieving keys for images to be analyzed. A cursor is shifted by the ball 3 and an area within the frame of the noticed abnormal part is pointed out. Thus an image retrieving system also selects the registered retrieving keys and retrieves the images having the same retrieving keys.
