PURPOSE:To increase the reaction of oxygen gas and metallic cadmium and to make quick charge possible by separately applying two or more paste- or slurry-like active materials having different compositions to a porous metal core to form a desired plate. CONSTITUTION:A porous metal core 1 is fed to a coating bath 3 with a feed roller 2, coated with a paste- or slyrry-like active material having a low conductor density so as to have a specified thickness, dried in a drying tower 4, and pressed so as to have a specified thickness with a roller 5 to form a plate. The plate is again coated with a paste- or slurry-like active material having a high conductor density so as to have a specified thickness in a coating bath 3, dried in a drying tower 4, and pressed with a roller 5 to complete a plate. Since the plate obtained has metallic cadmium on its surface, the utilization of active material is enhanced and quick charge is made possible. |
