PURPOSE:To detect the picture information with high accuracy by using an output signal taking a time between two transfer pulses before and after a synchronizing signal representing the luminous quantity change period as a storage time so as to apply exposure control and using the output signal taking the time between other two transfer pulses of a prescribed phase as the storage time against the luminous quantity change so as to detect the picture information. CONSTITUTION:A control means 48 uses the information transferred to the transfer section by a transfer pulse D next to a synchronizing signal (b) to control the exposure and the information transferred to the transfer section is used by other optional transfer pulse (d) of a prescribed phase to the periodic change of the luminous quantity to detect the picture information. That is, the time interval (m) is used as the exposure detection storage time and the time interval (m) is used as the picture detection storage time. The control means 48 uses the output signal (f) by the exposure detection storage time (m). For example, when the output signal (f) to each picture element exceeds a preset maximum value, the period (l) set by the periodic signal (c) is changed to reduce the storage time (m), thereby reducing the exposure. Thus, the blooming of the line sensor 56 is prevented.
