PREPARATION OF POLYETHYLENE

PURPOSE:To obtain polyethylene having a high melt-extension and die swell in a high productivity, by polymerizing C2H4 or C2H4 and alpha-olefin in the presence or Ziegler catalyst consisting of a specified catalyst ingredient and a catalyst ingredient selected from among organoaluminum compounds. CONSTITUTION:1mol of metal enolate (e.g. iron (III) acetylacetonate) is reacted with 0.01-100mol of an organomagnesium compound (e.g. butylethyl-magnesium), and the resultant is reacted with 0.01-100mol of a titanium halide compound (e.g. TiCl4) of formula I (where R<4> is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; X is a halogen; and n is 0-4) to give a catalyst ingredient. 0.001-2.5mmol (in terms of Ti atoms) of this ingredient is combined with 0.02-50mmol (in terms of Al atoms) of an organoaluminum compound (e.g. triethylaluminum) of formula II (where R<t> is R<4>; m is 0-3) per l of an inert solvent such as 4-20C (cyclo) alkane or per l of a reaction vessel to give a catalyst. C2H4 or C2H4 and an alpha-olefin are polymerized in the presence of this catalyst under a pressure of 2-50kg and 20-300 deg.C.
