PURPOSE:To obtain a bottom blowing plug whose refractory part has superior corrosion and spalling resistances when a metal pipe is embedded with a refractory contg. graphite to produce a bottom blowing plug for a converter, by orienting the graphite in the refractory in a direction along the pipe. CONSTITUTION:When a gas blowing plug fitted to a bottom blowing tuyere of a converter is produced, a pipe 46 of a heat resistant steel such as stainless steel is laid in a molding flask 44 at a proper position and stock 48 made of a refractory contg. graphite is filled into the flask 44 so that the pipe 46 is embedded with the stock 48. The flask 44 is then vibrated in the horizontal direction, that is, the axial direction of the pipe 46 and pressure is applied under the vibration to form a plug 32. By the vibration, the flake graphite 42 in the refractory 40 is oriented in a direction along the pipe, so cracking due to thermal stress is inhibited and the corrosion and spalling resistances of the refractory part 40 of the plug 32 are improved to prolong the service life of the plug 32.
