PURPOSE:To reduce the consumption of sealing gas, by positioning the upper edge of an inlet opening and an outlet opening for a fiber tow to the level same to or lower than the floor level of the horizontal straight cylinder and connecting an atmospheric gas introducing pipe at least to the straight cylinder part. CONSTITUTION:An opening 4 for introducing a fiber tow is attached to one end of a horizontally placed straight cylinder 11 and an outlet opening 16 is attached to the other end. The levels of the upper edges 5, 14 of both openings 4, 16 are positioned to the level same to or lower than the level of the floor 9 of the straight cylinder 11 (preferably lower than the floor level by 0.5-10m). Pipes 10, 10' for feeding heating and/or atmospheric gas are opened to the upper face and/or the side face of the straight cylinder 11.
