PURPOSE:To reduce a recording time by providing a selection means to selectively select a route from a forward path to a backward path on a circulation transport channel and thereby permitting selection of the length of a circulation transport channel in accordance with the size of a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:When the size of a recording medium is small and a transparent path is used by selecting its length, a paper guide member 11b moves from a position 11b to switch a transport route for a recording medium 1 which proceeds in a forward path 8 to a transport path 2. In addition, the transport route is switched to A3, A4 respectively by moving paper guide members 11c, 11d to the forward path 8. The length of a single cycle of the paper transport channels A1, A2, A3 represents a relationship of A1>A2>A3>A4. Wasteful feed of the paper at the time of recording can be eliminated by selecting a paper transport channel which is suited for a longitudinal size of the recording medium. Subsequently, it is possible to set the length of an optimum transport channel according to the size of the recording medium. At the same time, a recording time can be shortened without wasteful paper feed. |
