PURPOSE:To eliminate instability of quantity of heat resulting from movement of a heating source to make it possible to heat a glass rod stably, by fixing the heating source and reciprocating the glass rod grasped by chucks of a glass lathe in its lengthwise direction. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of a glass rod 2 are grasped by chucks 11 of a glass lathe 1. A plasma torch to heat the glass rod 2 is attached to a fixed table 31. For example, a nut part is made on the glass lathe 1, a screw 81 is screwed to the nut, the screw 81 is rotated by a rotary drive device 8 such as motor, etc., and the whole glass lathe 1 is reciprocated. Instability of quantity of heat in an existing method to transfer the heating source is eliminated, a glass rod member can be stably heated and optical fiber having excellent physical properties can be produced. |
