PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer which is excellent in the ability of separating polar compounds and separating or fractionating ability by polymer composition, by copolymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile compound and a multifunctional monomer. CONSTITUTION:An ethylenically unsaturated nitrile compound (e.g. 2- chloroacrylonitrile) of the formula (where R1-2 are each H or an arbitrary substituent; and R2 is a halogen, CN or an ester group), 5-50mol% multifunctional monomer (e.g. ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) which is capable of copolymerizing with the nitrile compound to form a crosslinked polymer and, if necessary, other monomer [e.g. (meth)acrylic acid (ester)] capable of copolymerizing with these monomers in a total monomer amount of 100pts.wt. are copolymerized, using 20-500pts.wt. solvent in the presence of 0.1-5.0pts.wt. polymerization initiator at 50-80 deg.C.
