PURPOSE:To obtain a polyolefin having a high bulk density and a high stereoregularity and undergoing neither deterioration non coloring in a high yield, by using a catalyst consisting of a specified solid catalyst ingredient, a catalyst ingredient selected from among organometallic compounds and an electron donor compound catalyst ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A solid product obtained by reacting an Mg compound of the formula (where R<1-4> are 1-20C hydrocarbon groups; D is an electron donor compound; a is 0.02-5; b-d are 0-2; e is 0.02-20; f is 0.01-30; and b+c+d+e=2+4a) with a titanium halide is treated with a halogenated hydrocarbon and a titanium halide to give a solid catalyst ingredient (a). This ingredient is combined with a catalyst ingredient (e.g., trimethylaluminum) selected from among organometallic compounds of Group Ia, IIa, IIb, IIIb and IVb and an electron donor compound catalyst ingredient (e.g., diphenyldimethoxysilane) to give a catalyst. Subsequently, an alpha-olefin (e.g., propylene) is polymerized in the presence of said catalyst under a pressure of 2-50kg/cm<2> and 20-110 deg.C.
