PURPOSE:To prevent the erosion of a bottom blowing nozzle fitted to a converter and the lining refractory of the converter by providing a double-tubed structure to the nozzle and blowing gaseous CO2 from the inner tube and gaseous Ar, N2 or CO from the outer tube. CONSTITUTION:When molten pig iron is refined in a converter having a bottom blowing nozzle to manufacture molten steel, a double-tubed structure is provided to the nozzle, gaseous CO2 for agitating the molten steel is blown from the inner tube and gaseous Ar, N2 or CO for cooling from the outer tube. The erosion of the nozzle at high temp. and the deterioration of the quality of molten steel due to the increase of the hydrogen content in the steel by gaseous hydrocarbon are prevented. The erosion is caused in case where gaseous CO2 is blown from a single tube. Deterioration is caused in case where gaseous O2 is blown from the inner tube and gaseous hydrocarbon for cooling from the outer tube.
