PURPOSE:To obtain a forming mold capable of forming a formed glass article of a high accuracy without requiring polishing after press forming, by forming the surface layer from a substance consisting of plural components containing Pt as a principal component and Ni. CONSTITUTION:A forming mold having a base and surface layer in which the shape of the surface layer is formed by press forming. The surface layer is formed from a substance consisting of at least two components of Pt as a principal component and 5-45wt% Ni. Releasability from the formed glass article can be improved by containing Ni in the Pt as the principal component. Good results are obtained in each of denseness, hardness, strength and chemical reaction resistance.
