PURPOSE:To improve the power factor at a receiving point of electric power without using a power factor improving capacitor by using a compensating device to produce the value equal to the sum of the reactive power to be compensated and the reactive power that is possibly produced by another load. CONSTITUTION:When the reactive power of a receiving system is compensated, a reactive power compensating device 10 is connected to a load 11A having comparatively large fluctuation. Thus, the device 10 produces the electric power equal to the sum of the reactive power of the load 11A and the reactive power that is possibly produced by a load 11B having comparatively small fluctuation. In such a way, the power factor is extremely improved as long as the fluctuation of the load 11B is small. Furthermore, a power factor improving capacitor can be omitted and the damage by burning is avoided.
