PURPOSE:To prevent an access to a file different from an object file by comparing logic addresses of data blocks before and after the tape mark so as to confirm the detection of the tape mark. CONSTITUTION:When a tape mark read command is sent from a host device 1, a magnetic tape device 3 is driven under the control of a microprocessor MPU4 and a read data is stored in a buffer 6. When a data block is read consecutively, the logic address is incremented by one. When the tape mark is read, the MPU4 recognizes a logic address of the data block and when the address is incremented by two in comparison with the logic address of the data block detected precedingly, the normality of detection of the tape mark is confirmed. When the logic address is only incremented by one after the detection of the tape mark, it is discriminated to be mis-recognition of the tape mark.
