PURPOSE:To accelerate the positioning of a stepping motor by providing a switch for short-circuiting phase exciting windings at a predetermined timing thereby to advance the attenuation of the vibration at the time of positioning. CONSTITUTION:When a rotor 1 is stopped in the state that an A'-phase is excited, at least one of A-, B-, B'-phase switches 14b, 15b, 17b of the phase which is not excited is turned ON to short-circuit the exciting coil. At this time, counterelectromotive force is induced in the exciting windings of the phases by the vibration of the rotor 1, but they are short-circuited through the closed one of corresponding switches 14b, 15b, 17b, the energy of the vibration induced by the vibration is converted to heat by the internal resistance of the phase exciting windings to be dissipated. Accordingly, the vibration is early attenuated to stop early at the target position. |
